OWH Blue and Brown Challenge

So the challenge today for Operation Write Home today was to create a masculine card in blue and brown. Also, the first person to complete the challenge was to get his/her card up on the blog. Well, unfortunately, on my final refresh, two people were ahead of me, so I decided to go ahead and post here first. The deadline for Father's Day cards for OWH is May 15, so get those Father's Day cards made and sent out to OWH. It's a great cause. Click on their blog link at the right of my posts to check them out. :) Support our troops! :)

So, here's my card in blue and brown.

So, a couple of years ago, I bought this No. 1 DAD stamp at Archiver's, in their hot spot. I believe I paid $1.99 for it. I'd never used it. (Have I mentioned I'm a hoarder?) Anyway, I stamped the sentiment in Outdoor Denim by CTMH. I used some scissors to distress the edges (where is my Tim Holtz distress tool???!?) and inked them in chestnut roan chalk ink. I then matted it on a navy blue card stock and distressed the edges of that. I took a silver safety pin and a silver charm with "thank you" on it and took Tim Holtz alcohol ink in Ginger and made it all sort of bronzy. Tim Holtz is a genius, isn't he?? I think I need more of his alcohol ink, because this would have looked better in a little different shade, I think. But this was all I had in brown that I could find quickly, so this is what it got :) (remember, I was trying to be the first one done, here.) I pinned the charm to the stamped card stock.

Then I took a piece of kraft card stock, inked the edges with that same chestnut roan chalk ink, cut a 3/4 inch "ribbon" of that navy blue card stock to run down the middle, and adhered the sentiment down on that.

I found a couple of brown buttons, tied a knot through the middle of the button holes with hemp, apparently, upon looking at it now, I tied the knot on the back side of the one on the right and adhered it upside down so the button is backwards on that side. OOOPS.... Good greif. Well, this just goes to show you, don't be in a hurry, you competitive little beast. :) LOL Anyway, I will fix that, because I have more of those buttons in a baggie right in front of me.

I used my stars folder for the cuttlebug and embossed a metallic piece of dark brown paper. I bought a whole ream of it because that's how much I love this paper. It's just gorgeous. I adhered that to a kraft base that the edges were inked on, and the fold is on the side. Different is good sometimes. Hope you enjoy this little explanation of my card. Now I'm going to fix my button mistake. :)

  1. I like your masculine card, the stars embossing is a nice and your #1 Dad stamp story is cute. It's nice to know I'm not the only one with lonely unused stamps.
